How much does choreography matter?
It is certainly debatable. Considering that couples only get a few seconds of attention from an adjudicator, one might think that ranting about choreography is irrelevant. Still I think there are other approaches.
1. Your own creative thinking
2. The feeling of being able and allowed to dance a special, unusual choreography.
3. The possibility of being able to "score" better in a show performance, since unusual elements can be seen.
4. The chance to become a "brand". There are very few personalities in dancesport these days. Interesting, unusual choreographies help to develop a personal "look", an individual "style" that will make you recognized over the years (like a good, well-known actor).
So I think choreography has a very high and justified value in dance sport.
4. The Choreo Package:
How do I approach a choreography?
There are different ways to conjure up something from an existing choreography.
You look for other degrees of rotation, other angles, other timings etc. or
you start a choreography from scratch.
It's always my main approachorganicto stay but to try the"usual"and to limit the approach to the "surprise" to steer.
